Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie by Kristina Gregory

It is about a child named Hattie. In the beginning a family relative dies. They end up headed for Oregon Trail. And a bunch of people die. The saddest part in the book is when two twins went looking for flowers and the next thing they know they're missing. And everyone had to move on. RATING: ****and a half Brandixx

RMS Titanic by Ellen Emerson White

This book is about an orphan, who lives in London, England and was asked to go to America with an American woman, Mrs. Carstairs. She gets there by sailing on the RMS Titanic as it sinks! My favorite part of the book is when the Titanic sinks! I think girls age 10-14 will enjoy this book. RATING: ***** Allison Lee

Cleopatra is growing up and is going to Rome while trying to help her father regain his throne and help make Egypt a better place. She dreams of becoming a great queen. My favorite part was when Cleopatra helps form a treaty with the Romans and helps her father not look like a complete idiot. Christmas After All: Minnie’s Great Depression Diary by Kathryn Lasky

This book is about a girl in the Great Depression who is trying to bring Christmas together with her family. It shows the entertainment and troubles they had during the Depression in Minnie’s diary. My favorite part is toward the end when the Christmas ends up being a good one. Even through all those tough times, it shows how close they were together. Also when the father came back home, it brought joy to my heart. I think children who are 9-13 years old will enjoy this book I think both boys and girls will read this book. But if your doing a report on this like I did I would suggest girls who are 11 or 12. Parts of the book children would not understand or have never heard of before. Crispin: At the Edge of the World by Avi

Another great historical novel by Avi...he is amazing! Crispin has been banished from his homeland in fuedal England, and denied his right to the English throne because of his birth to a commoner. He and his wounded friend Bear must find their way to a place where they can live untroubled, but Bear is ill and Crispin must now care for him. He finds that trust and friendship come from unlikely places, and the adventures are just beginning... I think boys ages 8-12 will enjoy this book. RATING: **** LLL

Clementine by Sara Pennypacker

Move over Junie B...and make room for Clementine, a fruity little third grader who seems to find trouble no matter what! Paying attention and doing the right thing seem to be hard-to-do concepts for Clementine. Luckily, she has VERY understanding parents, friends, and principal who are able to help her out and love her in spite of her antics. Adorable ending, by the way. Enjoy! The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

This book is about a boy named Tom who goes on loads of adventures. He also gets an enemy-Injun Joe. My favorite part of the book is when Tom, Huck Finn, and Joe fake their own death. Then they scare everyone at their funeral. I think both boys and girls who are 10 years old will enjoy this book. RATING: ***** NN

The Beacon Street Girls: Freaked Out by Annie Bryant

This book is about 5 girls who are in the seventh grade. The girls names are Maeve, Isabel, Avery, Katani, and Charlotte. Trouble starts when only 3 of them get invited to Julie Faber's birthday party. My favorite part was when Nick asked Charlotte to dance at Julie's party. The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall

This book is about 4 girls that take a vacation in Cape Cod. They become friends with a boy who lives in an Arundel house. Everything is great until Mrs. Tifton hates the Penderwick goirls. My favorite part was when Sky, Jane, Jeffrey and Battey go to see the bull and get chased by it. I think both boys and girls age 9-13 will enjoy this book. RATING: ***** SB

This book is about a kid named Lucky who wins a lottery ticket that is worth $7,000,000. But the ticket has been stolen! Now it is up to Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose to get it back. Will they succeed? Read "The Lucky Lottery" to find out! My favorite part was when Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose found the robber in the store and made her tell them that she was wearing gloves. This book is about a boy who loves pigeons but lives in a town where they have a pigeon shooting contest. After they are shot, if the pigeons are still alive, wringers "wring their necks"...despite all his love for them, the young boy must still be a wringer... My favorite part was when you discover that the boy has been secretly keeping a pet pigeon. I think boys and girls age 10-12 will enjoy this book RATING: ***and 3/4 NN

This book is about a boy named Napoleon who is a very famous general with lots of war heading his way. He takes over pretty much half the world! Until his death... Hannah's Helping Hands by Jean Van Leeuwen

This book is about a girl named Hannah, whose brother is off fighting in the Revolutionary War. Then one day he comes to visit. Once he leaves, the British comes to Hannah’s town and Hannah’s father goes to the town center to help fight. When the little war in their town is over, Hannah sees that all the houses are one but she’s wondering if her father's ok. Is Hannah’s father all right? I like the part when Hannah and her sister do their spring cleaning before Ben comes. I like how she and her sister Rebecca pick all the feathers off the geese and get all muddy chasing the geese. This book is about twins, a boy and a girl, who live in Pennsylvania during the civil war. When Aunt Rudine and Simon come, Stephen is fed up and runs off to the army. Susanne must find Stephen. Is he still alive? I liked the parts before Aunt Rudine came because some things were very adventurous. I think both boys and girls who are 10 to 16 years old will enjoy this book RATING:**** 14 Carrot Cake

The Battlefield Ghost by Magery Culyer

This book is about a brother and sister moving into a new house that is known to be haunted. John the brother and Lisa the sister both are 10 years old and have heard of this ghost and think its all a bunch of bologna. But they find out this silly ghost is more than they can handle. My favorite part of this book is when the ghost wants to get his horse back. So on the night of January 3, he appears and tells Josh and Lisa to get his horse back because he can’t leave the home (some kind of ghost mumbo jumbo) so John and Lisa go to the battlefield where his horse was last and they see the entire reenactment of the entire battle and it the author makes it really interesting so this my favorite part of the book. I think boys who are age 10+ will enjoy this book. RATING: **** dipsydoodle

The Secret Soldier by Ann McGovern

This book is about Deborah Sampson who is a American country leader because she is the first ever women soldier who dress’s as a man and enlists in the war as a continental soldier and has many adventures like one time she actually was shot in the leg but still stayed alive by surgically removed it herself and still not anyone who knew her secret and she goes to a march and finally is in a hospital from collapsing of exhaustion… My favorite part is the part when she describes the adventure of when she got shot in the leg and removed the musket ball herself! I think boys + girls 10 to 12 years old will enjoy this book a lot like me! RATING: ***** NN

A girl who lives in Hawaii when they get bombed she hates all the conditions. She hopes to go home and tries to help her Japanese friend. This book is about a girl named Cathrine Cary Logan, who is a Quaker. She got captured by the Indians. As weeks go by she finds herself to get attached to the Indians. In the end she comes back home. This book is about Jahanara, a princess, who’s family is imprisoned by her power-hungry aunt, Nur Mahal. Her family gets freedom, and this book tells how her life is then. My favorite part was when Jahanara turned 16 years old. She gets a new elephant, a gift from her father for her 16th birthday. It is her 1st birthday after freedom. This book is about a girl named Mary Driscoll who lived in Ireland and was sent to America for a better life. Mary worked in a mill and met many people. About 3-4 months of being in America Mary’s parents die from black fever. Mary is horrified but happy to be alive and with her aunt. The saddest part was when Mary’s parents die in Ireland just before Mary got enough money for them to come to America. I think girls who are age 10-12 will enjoy this book. The book is about a boy who is on the Corps of Discovery with Lewis and Clark. It is when President Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory. Nazis are invading and we have tons of money that could fall in the wrong hands. What ever shall we do? Well that’s were the main characters come in. There mission to get all the money to uncle Victor’s boat. Over 1 billion dollars needs to get to that boat. How will they do it? They’ll take it by sled. The book is basically about kids getting money to a boat and away from the Nazis. My favorite part is when a Nazi takes one of the boys as a prisoner. This book is about a 9-year-old girl, Virginia, who stays at a friend’s house in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania during the Civil War. She stays there while her Pa and brother Jed help their Uncle Jack hide his horses from Confederate soldiers. Then a great battle starts in Gettysburg. Will Pa and Jed find their way back to Virginia? My favorite part is when Virginia describes the battle. I think girls age 7-11 will enjoy this book. RATING: **** Simomichi

The Great Tree of Avalon by T A Barron

This book is about Tamwyn, who is searching for his lost brother. He encounters some odd friends in his quest. It is a book that comes after the Merlin epics. If you like those books, I recommend this one. I do not have a favorite part of the book, although the characters make very funny jokes. I have read the book over 13 times! I think children who are age 9-12 will enjoy this book. I think both boys and girls will prefer this book. RATING: ***** (Remember, I read it 13 times!) Wordcritic9

Greeting from Libraryland!

Like the new look???? Just thought I'd keep it from getting too boring. So, hi all you fellow bookworms. Things are busy here in the Library...trying to generate some new reviews soon. I have a couple of classes working on different types of books...like WAR, and DEAR AMERICA books. New reviews should be coming in soon, so keep checking. Love all the comments, btw.
