GOSSAMER is about a dream giver named Littlest One. She starts with a teacher called Fastidious, but then she switches to a teacher named Thin Elderly. There is a little boy in Thin Elderly's house and Littlest One is assigned to give the little boy dreams. But then other dream givers report Sinisteeds, horse things that give nightmares instead of dreams. Littlest One has to give good dreams to fight the nightmares. One night, she meets a Horde, a herd of Sinisteeds. She just escapes being trampled, and recieves a surprise from Most Ancient, the leader.
My favorite part was when Littlest discovers that she isn't transparent anymore, she is transuculent. Not quite solid yet, but half solid half transparent. Thin Elderly holds his arm up to hers and she sees the difference.
I would reccomend this book to girls who are ages 8-11.

Gossamer by Lois Lowry
This was a wonderful book about creatures called dream-givers...similar to the BFG (by Roald Dahl). An older, more experienced dream-giver and Littlest One lightly touch 2 humans' treasured objects, take the good memories and bestow them to a kind older woman and a troubled boy while they sleep. They have to watch out for the Sinisteeds...they sense when the boy is vulnerable and decend on him in a pack to give him terrible nightmares! The dream-givers do their best to bestow the happiest moments that help keep the humans strong.
I think both girls and boys ages 9-12 will enjoy this book (maybe more girls...)
