MEET FELICITY AN AMERICAN GIRL by Valerie Tripp

Felicity has always liked horses, but when she meets Penny she likes them even more. After Felicity how bad Jiggy-penny's owner- she starts visiting her every night.  But when Jiggy catches Felicity trespassing to give Penny an apple, he forbids her to come back. He also keeps an  eye on her in case she comes back.

But Felicity is determined to help Penny, so she still comes back every night. Still not getting caught. Will Jiggy ever be nice to Penny? Or will Penny suffer though the rest of her life?!?!

Felicity is in conflict with another character. The conflict is that Jiggy won't treat Penny fairly.

Felicity changes by being nicer to Jiggy at the end of the book.

I could relate to this book because my sister's friend used to be very mean to her and now she is much nicer.

MEET KAYA by Janet Shaw

Kaya (main character) is a Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) native american, Kaya has a wonderful Appaloosa mare, Steps High.  Since he is so wonderful Kaya tends to brag. Then she gets into a bit of trouble.

Kaya is the character who is mostly in conflict with herself. Kaya bragged about her horse then she finds she has a race while she is supposed to babysit her brothers .

During the course of this book Kaya changes and is more careful about what she says about Steps High.
This book reminds me about a cousin.  He is an only child, he can brag a little.

His owner was sick so one of the friends got sold to a man.  Black Beauty and his other friend got to still be together.  A few days later it got sold again with out his friend and so the horse went along with his new master and said goodbye.

RIDING FREEDOM by Pam Munoz Ryan

When Charlotte escapes from the orphanage after her favorite horse dies, she must dress as a boy and sleep in a barn hayloft. When she moves to California she meets someone who wants women to vote. Will Charlotte vote?

My least favorite part of the book is when Charlotte gets kicked in the eye by a horse and becomes half blind. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to ride again.

I would recommend this book to girls age eight and up.

RIDING FREEDOM by Pam Munoz Ryan

After Charlotte was sent to an orphanage to work in the kitchen for the mean Mrs. Boyle and Mr. Millshark the manager of the orphanage, Charlotte got tired or working in the kitchen.Ever since Mrs. Boyle didn't let her be adopted by a nice lady. When Charlotte's best friend Hayward gets adopted her heart drops and all seems to be lost. When she decides to run away her other friend Vern, warns her that the last attempt to flee the orphanage did not succeed. It was rare to get away . Will Charlotte ever get away?

My favorite part of the story is when  Charlotte teaches Mr. Millshark a lesson when he had to take off his boots to help get the coach out of the mud.

I would not recommend this book because it was foolish to run away from the orphanage.

My rating for this book is * 1 star.

NIGHT MARE by Vicki Kamida

This book is about a girl named Janet who has a love for horses, which increases when her and her family move from San Francisco to Pasadena, California. She loves going to the stable near her house, but feels left out from the other girls because she does not have her very own horse. Janet then dreams of a beautiful white mare, which she names Storm, and riding the horse feels like a dream to Janet. Janet knows that the horse is real, it has to be, so she goes down to the arroyo the next day to look, where she finds the horse of her dreams and befriends J.G. and Larissa, a brother and sister who live at the ranch, and soon finds out that Storm is actually Larissa’s horse. Janet feels disappointed that she will never be able to keep Storm as her own, but the dream is still a mystery to her. What will happen to Janet, and what mysteries await at the ranch?
My favorite part of the story is when Janet finds out that J.G., Larissa, and Storm are ghosts that were trapped in the canyon and called on her to set their spirits free. I liked this part because I could feel real emotions along with Janet.
I think girls who are 11-13 years old will enjoy this book

Stormy, Misty's Foal by Marguerite Henry

The book is about a Assateague pony named Misty and the family that owns her, the Beebees, and what happens when Misty is about to foal but at the same time, a huge flood comes. My favorite part of the book was when Misty went into Grandma Beebee’s kitchen to take shelter from the flood while the Beebees evacuate to the mainland of Virginia, and when Grandpa Beebee and Paul Beebee come to check on Misty and instead of finding a foal, they find their cat has had kittens again. I think ngirls who are 9 or more will enjoy this book. RATING: ***** Dusty Costina
