Bud, not Buddy by Chistopher Paul Curtis

Bud, not Buddy is about a kid named Bud. Bud's mother dies, and he's an orphan. Bud is trying to find his father. On the way, Bud makes friends. My favorite part of the book is when Bud found out who his grandfather was. I think children who are 9-11 will enjoy this book. I think boys will prefer this book. RATING: ***** Bloppo

Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver

A 12 year old boy named Torak grants his Pa's dying wish "Reach the mountain of world spirits". Going through many dangers, Torak finds the mountain with the help of Wolf and Renn. My favorite part was when Torak finds an orphaned wolf cub and wants to eat him. He realizes that this wolf could be the guide his pa spoke of, and he doesn't eat the cub after all. The cub is a big help on the journey. I think kids 8-15 would enjoy this book I think boys would enjoy this book. RATING: ***** Popeye

Calling all Bookworms...New Reviews???

Calling all bookworms...looking for new reviews to post. Anyone out there read anything interesting that you want to share with Libraryland??? Review sheets are available in the Library by the window...blanks are in the crate, and there's a folder for completed reviews. If there's enough interest, maybe a few students could help by typing them onto a template (loaded onto the computers), then I'll copy & paste them into the blog. Anyone interested can leave a comment on this post, or see me in school. Enjoy your long weekend!!! LLL

LLL's Response

Hello out there in LibraryLand...had some good questions that I figured I'd respond to real quick... 1. Where should questions be directed to LLL ? I'll have to get back to you on that...you can always visit in the Library...I know online's more fun though. How 'bout a question box near the blog area??? 2. When can 5th graders do reviews? Possibly soon! Right now, I am trying to judge how much interest there will be, and keep in managable for 1 person (me!) I am glad to know you are want to blog with us! 3. Good feedback about adding a spot on the review for the number of pages in a book...nice idea! I have many forms copied, but will try to add it asap.

The Mirrors of Merlin by T. A. Barron

The book is about a young man named Merlin with some extraordinary wizarding powers. Can he somehow save his life when a bloodnoose threatens to rip his heart in two? Or will he die in unyielding agony in which death would be a miracle? Read on to find out. My favorite part was when Merlin ran into his older self, who was actually living backwards. I think children who are 9-11 years old will enjoy this book I think both boys and girls will enjoy this book **************************************************************** Mojara Abba

Stormbreaker (An Alex Rider Adventure) by Anthony Horowitz

Alex Rider lost his Uncle Ian (his closest relative) to a "car accident". Something seems strange, so he begins investigating and discovers that his uncle's death was no accident, and Ian was involved in espionage. When the company enlists 14 year old Alex (thanks for the correction!) to continue his uncle's mission, the book really gets interesting! His high-tech toys are more than meets the eye. I think boys would especially like this book, ages 10-12 RATING: ***** PS-This is the first in the Alex Rider Series, and is a movie now available on dvd!!! Lane Library Lady

Gossamer by Lois Lowry

This was a wonderful book about creatures called dream-givers...similar to the BFG (by Roald Dahl). An older, more experienced dream-giver and Littlest One lightly touch 2 humans' treasured objects, take the good memories and bestow them to a kind older woman and a troubled boy while they sleep. They have to watch out for the Sinisteeds...they sense when the boy is vulnerable and decend on him in a pack to give him terrible nightmares! The dream-givers do their best to bestow the happiest moments that help keep the humans strong. I think both girls and boys ages 9-12 will enjoy this book (maybe more girls...)
