TRUMPET OF THE SWAN by E. B. White

This book is about a mom and dad trumpeter swan that laid five eggs.  After all the eggs hatched, each baby swan could talk.  Except one named Louis.  The story is about a swan that grows up with no voice.  His dad steals a trumpet so the baby swan can make noise.  But Louis is in debt and needs to pay back for the trumpet his father stole.

My favorite part of the book is when Louis goes to a camp with his person friend, Sam.  During a camp day, a skunk appears at the camp with a soup can stuck on his head.  Sam gets a fishing pole and gets the can off the skunk head.  The skunk, frightened, sprays its stinky gas at Sam and he gets all smelly!
I would recommend this book to all animal lovers.

SHADOW OF A BULL by Maia Wojciechowska

This book is about boy named Manolo whose father is the best bull fighter in the history of Arcangel, Spain. Manolo thinks he knows he's a coward and fears being taught by 6 men who want to bring back a legend.
My favorite part is when Manolo goes in the morning with his "best friend" Juan to the bull pasture and he practices playing with the calves.
I think boys ages 9-12 will enjoy this book...it is a long and detailed book about killing bulls.

Drake liked the letter so much that he sent him a penguin named Captain Cook. They go off on adventures. My favorite part was when Captain Cook gets into the house and eats the fish! It was funny. I think both boys and girls ages 5-100 will enjoy this book. RATING: ***** NN

HOLES by Louis Sachar

Holes is about a boy named Stanley who goes to this camp for people who did bad things. You only get a 1 minute shower and it is hot water. The setting is in the desert and you barely got any water. Will Stanley stay alive? Read the book to find out! The scariest part of the book was when Zero & Stanley were climbing the "Big Thumb" and they were dehydrated. I think this book is good for boys and girls ages 8 to 12. SCORE ****************************************************** Pinkrox10
