A PICTURE OF FREEDOM By Clotee (unknown last name)

A slave girl named Clotee is fighting for freedom. Along with that, she makes some friends. Sadly, it involves death.

Clotee struggles with slavery in her childhood

The main problem for Clotee is that she wants FREEDOM not slavery!

Clotte changed from being shy to being brave. For example, she has stood up and helped her friends escape to freedom.

Clotee reminds me of Fredrick Douglass because he went through the same problems and got the same results

I would give this book a whopping * * * *!

WEST TO A LAND OF PLENTY by Jim Murphy

Teresa Viscardi is traveling to the land of Opportunity. Teresa and her family think that leaving their friends is the hardest thing and they maybe right but along the way they face terrible obstacles like contagious fever, going into Indian territory and much more! Will Teresa make it to Opportunity? With some powerful words and bravery she just might!

The saddest part was when Teresa's sister Netta died because of the fever.

I would recommend this book to both girls and boys who are 8-12

THE JOURNAL OF AUGUSTUS PELLETIER by Kathryn Lasky

This book is about a man named Augustus Pelletier who explores America with a gang called the corps of discovery. He goes on adventures and gets bitten by snakes climbs mountains and much more! In the beginning it is boring but gets more interesting later.

The weirdest part is when Augustus Pelletier jumped in the middle of a hurricane to save a baby. He was on the edge of a cliff and almost fell off.

I would recommend this book for boys/girls ages 11-17.

THE JOURNAL OF SCOTT PENDLETON COLLINS by Walter Dean Myers

First, the soldiers went in a boat and when they reached shore they saw  another boat on fire. Also one day they were battling in the woods and Scott and his friend threw a bomb. Next, Scott and his friend went out to find a house to stay in. When they found a house they went in and saw if anybody was in it. Scott also went upstairs and looked in the bedroom and there was nobody. So Scott blew the roof up with a bomb.                                                                                                                                                                         My scariest part was, when Scott saw a boat on fire.My other  scariest part was when they were battling. My favorite part of the book was when Scott blew up the houses roof with a bomb. And when charlie made an awesome plan.

I would recommend this book to only boys who are 8-10 years old will enjoy this book.
