ELLA FITZGERALD BIO POEM -Audrey

Ella was born on April 25 1917 Newport News VA
Shortly after her birth her parents divorced
Ella and her mother moved to Yonkers NY
They were very poor
after a couple years Ella had taught herself to dance
When Ella was 15 her mother died
Sadly Ella started working for illegal gambling clubs
Then the police picked her up the streets and sent her to a reform school
After Ella ran away from school she sang at the Apollo theater
That was the night Ella's career bloomed Chick Webb asked Ella to join his band
Next Ella and Chick's band made scat singing popular
After Chick's  band Ella joined "Jazz at the Philharmonic"
She earned 13 Grammies
She sold more records than any other Jazz singer
And of course she sung at the Carnage hall
Ella's parents are William and Temple(Tempie)
She married twice and adopted Ella's half sister's son
Then she suffered diabetes and she had to remove her legs
Then she died June 15 1996 at 77

The Great Ella Fitzgerald by Vishal

Ella
Nice to all, Understood differences of people,
Brave enough to stand up for a cause and perfect at her art
Ella was the daughter of Temple/Temple Fitzgerald and William Fitzgerald
Ella best loved racial harmony for all religions and races,
Dancing for fun and singing in all ways
Ella felt happy that she had a great voice ,
Stressed at the government and felt sad for all the pain blacks were suffering from
Ella feared racial segregation and extinction of black rights
Ella needed popularity from both blacks and whites
Ella gave many songs to the world and racial melody
Ella from Yonkers, Harlem, on the streets, reform school, and Beverly Hills
Ella was a beautiful, great singer that I could relate to in ways. Her music can make me want to cry or even dance depending on the song

THE ORPHAN SINGER BY Emily Arnold McCully

A girl is born to the Dolci family who can't keep her so they leave her in the infant drawer to the Ospedalo. She was born as Nina but is now Catarina. She makes the choir school and often gets visited by her family. She finds out that her brother is sick and sneaks out of the Ospedalo.

My favorite part was when Catarina snuck out of the Ospedalo.
I think girls between 6-10 years old will like this book
