Books are Fine in 2009
Hi everyone out there in LibraryLand...it's been a while since our last entry. I plan to continue the Reading Review blog with some new items...that's right, the latest and greatest reads & reviews from Grades 4 & 5.
Looking for a good book to read? Here are some suggestions...
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (author of Coraline, soon to be a movie)...SCARY!!!
The orphan Bod, short for Nobody, is taken in by the inhabitants of a graveyard as a child of eighteen months and raised lovingly and carefully to the age of eighteen years by the community of ghosts and otherworldly creatures. (Fantasy)
Honey Cake by J. Stuchner... David and his family live in Denmark during the Nazi occupation, until September 1943, when their neighbors help smuggle them to Sweden to escape Hitler's orders to send the Danish Jews to concentration camps. Includes a recipe for honey cake, typically made to celebrate the Jewish New Year. (Historical Fiction)
At the Sign of the Star by K. Sturtevant In seventeenth-century London, Meg, who has little interest in cooking, needlework, or other homemaking skills, dreams of becoming a bookseller and someday inheriting her widowed father's book store (Historical Fiction)
Enjoy!!!
