SOLVING ZOE by Barbara Dee

Lizards!  That's all middle-school girl Zoe Bennet can think about. But when new kid Lucas moves in, she discovers her hidden talent: deciphering code. Soon Zoe is going over to his house and having practice sessions to practice learning new types of code, such as pigpen. She feels like going crazy with all this on her hands, babysitting lizards for her dad's friend Isaac and all the memories of code swirling around in her muddled brain. On top of that she has to go to tutoring with Owen! What will happen next?

My favorite part was when Zoe was snooping in Lucas's notebook and discovers her name, ZOE, in the middle of a jumble of numbers and letters.

I would recommend this book to girls 8-12.
