THE SECRET OF LAUREL OAKS by Lois Ruby

Ever since her friend, Roberto, died Lila has been hearing his voice every  night chanting and drumming. When she and her family are staying at a hotel that is supposedly haunted Lila starts to see things that aren't really there. One night when Lila gets a visit from the ghost spirit, Daphne, she starts to wonder if there is more to Laurel Oaks than what meets the eye.

Lila is in conflict with her brother, Gabe. She is trying to convince him that the things she is seeing and hearing are real and she is not going crazy.

In the beginning Lila is afraid of the supernatural events. But once Timberlarken, the tree, tells her who was responsible for the poisoning of the girls Lila is no longer afraid of Daphne. In the end she is not scared of the supernatural and even becomes friends with Daphne.
