Joshua's Oregon Trail by Patricia Hermes
The book is about name Josh who is going to Oregon and about 17 peaople die and the grandpa gets married to the Douglas sister.
My favorite part of the book was when they went across a river and three people die.
I recommend that boys age 9-12 read it
