Ella Jane Fitzgerald
Ella
Fitzgerald was born on April 25, 1917, in Newport News, Virginia.
Ella and
her mother moved to Yonkers, New York City shortly after her birth because,
sadly, her parents had just separated. Ella began to live on the streets of New
York City after her mother died.
She began
to learn scat music after Chick Webb invited her join his swing band. Chick
Webb taught her how to do scat and bebop
music, two different types of jazz singing.
Ella
overcame the very unfortunate event of losing her parents. She also overcame
living on the streets of New York.
After
Ella became a scat singer she continued sing and after awhile became the
ultimate scat singer.
She was
not allowed to sing in the most popular night clubs because she had dark skin.
This was very challenging for her as she was trying to grow as a popular
musician.
Ella was
a very independent person. Especially in her childhood because she lived all by
herself on the tough streets of New York City.
She was
always very hard working and determined. She never gave up in all of her life
after all of the hard problems she faced.
Her
amazingly fast and good scat singing made her one of America's most famous
musicians of all time.
Ella Jane
Fitzgerald was and is the undying flame that lights our musical heritage. She
is one of the best musicians the US has ever experienced.
