Ella was the daughter of Tempie and William Fitzgerald.
Ella best loved scat singing- substituting the words of a song for nonsense syllables,playing basketball as a kid and the works of many famous composers including George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter.
Ella felt like "the only thing better than singing was more singing",being herself and showing others how to and that everyone should be treated equal.
Ella feared segregation- the separation of blacks and whites and reform school.
Ella needed many fans and encouragement to go to clubs where blacks weren't allowed.
Ella gave her money and fame to many children's charities.
